And something that a lot of people don't realise is emissions tests are done on the age of the ENGINE, not the car itself (although the latter is generally assumed, considering most cars have the original year of engine fitted).

So you could run a 2 yr old car with an old 351 v8 in it and not need a cat, perfectly legal (as long as it passes pre-cat emissions!)..
