As for cutting out, maybe you just need a good setup? If you're engines using bosch KE, no doubt someones fiddled with it and its a bit out of sync?
Get it to a decent tuner and checked over
ive had a few rs turbo's in my time and ive found that the fuel pump relay's on them can cause this sudden cut out problem, the pink one under the drivers side footwell, if you drive it again and it cuts out feel the relay and i bet its red hot, check the plug wiring and change the relay mate, just an idea anyway.
