Gasket can go at any time or mileage, my 1.8 ZS did it at 40,000.
If its been change it should have had the new type fitted, there much better. The best one to fit is the cheap gasket kit. It has steel dowles where as the rovber ones were plastic and allowed the head to move and knacker the gasket.
