that's the beauty of turbo cars over n/a in my eyes. i used to spend a fortune on mk1 & 2 escort bits and bobs to make not a whole lot of difference in power. you can piss about with air filters, different carbs, manifolds all that malarkey. then i got a cossie which starts off with over 200 bhp and to get another 100 costs you a 3 bar map sensor, a set of greens, an actuator and a chip - also about 800 quids worth.
i've learnt over the years that it's all too easy to spend too much and hardly notice a difference. fair enough if your racing and have to fit within regulations, but for the road it's best to start with the biggest most powerful engine you can fit in the car.
like you say, you can get nos for that money for a far bigger gain and you'll definitely feel that you've got something for your money. you'd be able to sell or transfer it as well, unlike the custom exhaust.
