Maybe he found it easier to talk to a random person at the end of the phone........ because he knew it was going to hurt you if he came straight out with it.

Not defending the fact he ripped the heed aff it over the phone with some random dirtys, but still think it would have been better and more productive to drop the kids off to friends/family for an afternoon or evening and sit down to sort it out together than putting a post on the internet about it.
