Default My Mk1 Fiesta

(Some of this is copied straight from my thread on xrtwo.com so bear this in mind when reading, cheers)

Ive promised myself an OSF for a long time and one has turned up. Some will know im a Vauxhall nutter and have had, and still have many varients of Vauxhalls, but i cant hold off anymore. Ive got myself a Mk1 Fiesta. Ideally id have liked an Escort but im rather excited about my new purchase. Trouble is i know absolutely nothing about these cars. So this post is to gather as much info as you can give me, on engines, brakes suspension, body styling etc etc.
Initially, due to my Vauxhall experience i thought about putting an XE with a Vauxhall F20/F16cr gearbox, but im hampering after an Escort RST lump.
Bodywork wise its definitely going white with maybe some rally arches, but google image is my friend at the moment. What about brakes and suspension etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys...

Well here it is, doesnt look much but strippage begins the weekend:

Its too far gone

Drivers footwell:

Drivers inner arch:

Passenger inner arch was good:

Passenger footwell:

Passenger boot floor:

Also needed rear panel, front panel, wings and inner and outer sills.

Ah well the hunt continues as He wants £250 and wont drop. Im going to look elsewhere. I cant weld myself so would have to pay so it would be a lot of expense. All local guys have told me to steer clear. Just waiting on the availability of another yet

So today, i bought this one for 5th of the price of the blue one:

It looks worse but so far seems structually better than the blue one, and cost less than scrap value so not really anything to worry about.
My plan is a stripped out Mk1, in white, caged, decked, polished rims and a RST/Zetec Turbo engine. Hampered over an old ford for years but not had the funds to buy a Mk1/Mk2 Escort so this is the next best option. and as its not the normal Vauxhall stuff im used to so should be a challange for me instead of mundane. But as its me it could all change LOL If this one is fooked ill keep looking for another....
So feel free to laugh at me LOL

Well todays update. Had a couple of days off due to a family berevement
But back with it today. Gave it a quick wash:

Then started the stripdown and got the doors off:

Bonnet and grille:

Headlights, indicators and bumpers:

Cut the arches off:

Then had a poke around. Whoops lmao:

Where the sills meet the pillar:

And todays pile lmao:

And how it sits tonight:

More tomorrow:

It was worse, but also 5 times the price of the green one!

Any way, today i started on the interior.
Seats out:

Centre console and carpet out:

Drivers side seat mounting is a little scabby:

Drivers side floorpan has little hole, but seing the sill / A pillar rust it was expected:

Passenger side floor has seen some welding before:

Found two jacks in the boot:

Front and rear belts out:

Rear panels out:

My mate from a couple of units down, Nigel, who has a Mk1 XR2, helps with the window removal:

And out:

Nearly done inside:

Roof lining out:

And todays rubbish pile:

Next is dash, engine and screen!

Now undecided on the look, XR2, or clean and standard or aftermarket. Been trying to find the MCR kit but cant see any pics. Quite like these arches:

And so want these wheels in this style!

Today then:

And then i minced a couple of doors down watching Nigel trial fit his Valver into his Mk2:

Tomorrow, more on the Fiesta...

Well got the box and shafts out today but thats all. Got a bit lazy. Dumped all the interior and rubbish i had kicking about. Still got Carpet, front and rear seatbelts and rear speaker brackets incase anyone needs them.
Ill get the dash out soon too as i have an XR2 one to go in!

Today was a little mince on the Fiesta. Got the boot off:

Started threading the loom out:

Then started on the dash:

And the loom all removed:

Felt good working on the old girl again!

John and Scott came round, and Elmo couldnt resist getting involved:

More tomorrow
