You can try complaining as stated but I do know someone who has points from being convicted for driving without insurance as it was a 'letter' wrong on his certificate. The judge told him it was his responsibility to check he was correctly insured when the documents came through.

He didn't take a solicitor or get any advice but wishes he had now.
