Funnily enough I sold it to a guy who lives on Jersey as hand guns are still fully legal there, he has quite a few.

It was found packed in grease and wrapped in cloth amongst my grandads things after he died, my dad says he remembers seeing it once when he was about 5 (early 1950's) and assumed he'd just got rid of it.

Now the best bit was not only was it absolutely mint and fully functional but during the war the Germans shipped out the drawings for the Luger to about 12 different gun makers so they could churn them out, now some of these were poorly made and some ended up being made by the best gunsmiths in Germany, it just so happened that my grandads was one of them, made by a company called Krieghoff, like the Rolls Royce of gunsmiths, I eventually had it valued at £5k.

Had to hand it in to the Police but the local firearms guy was sound as a pound and realised it was worth something so didnt send it straight for scrap, he let me arrange to sell it to someone where it is still legal to own hence it going to jersey. ended up splitting the export and shipping fees (expensive for handguns) and managed to get £2.5k for it after expenses.

Sorry for waffling but it was a fantastically engineered piece of kit, they had to proof stamp every individual piece of the gun when it was made to say it was safe to shoot, the little Nazi eagle stamps were tiny and all over it, amazing to thing they could make something so precise on a large scale during a war over 60 years ago!!
