Good idea AJ but im afraid im not so keen on doing that:
a) If i get stopped on the way home i would have no insurance docs on me.
b) I would expect the insurance company would require additional payment before cover would start.
I've done it that way plenty of times mate, you're properly covered so even if you do get stopped you can prove you're insured.
As for the payment, all you have to pay is a deposit & you can pay the rest later or cancel the policy & get most of your deposit back.
