The big head/over-confidence/single minded etc is partly what made him so succesfull, and rare for a British sportsman.
Foggy was more interested in winning races/championships than being popular..
We always sneer at the arrogance of foreign sporting greats...
Us Brits' seem to prefer our sportsmen to be modest, limited in talent and the 'Plucky Loser' type
