Default Series 1 MOT failure

Hey guy's my series one failed mot today, bit fed up, so just want to vent a bit of frustration on ya! It has failed on a number of things, but mainly due to corrosion. The failure notice says

1. Nearside rear (sill area) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

2. Offside rear (sill area) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

3. Offside rear (inner wheelarch) suspension component mounting prescribed area is inadequetly repaired

4. Offside (front to rear) brake pipe is excessively corroded.

Basically im really worried about how I can go about repairing this, and the actual costs that are involved in putting this right. Not being a welder, or knowing anyone in the trade, im concerned that im going to get ripped off by a garage/workshop when it comes to getting the work done. Iv had a couple of garages look at it, but all i get is the usuall suck of the teeth and 'well we gotta do this too it, and it might be a bigger job than we expected' talk. I really want to keep the car on the road, as it is not a rot box by any means, and generally runs and drives well for a 23 yr old car. Anyway, any thoughts or advise would be great. Chris
