If you are dialling in the cam, you need a timing disc and a DIAL GAUGE.
YOu set the cam so thatis has FULL LIFT at whatever the cam makers says, after first establishing the TRUE TDC with GAUGE, you then turn it til it is at the right amount of degress before/after TDC, then turn cam till it's at correct LIFT on lobe.
An easier way is to do this though,
Get an old piece of metal that controls the cam end float, weld a nut on it, put the belt on etc with std pulley all timed up right, insert bolt into nut so it contacts the cam surface tighten, take off pulley etc this will hold it at TDC, put new pulley on tension up.
This is a cheat I always did with pinto cams, the bolt will contact the cam on a part that is not a bearing surface so is ok.
STD setting will be fine unless stated otherwise, they will not move the tag position around , will always be zeroed to keyway as normal.
