Default 1985 B plate Non-custom Series 1

It is with deep regret my Series 1 RS Turbo is now for sale. It’s a 1985 B plate non-custom model with 78k on the clock. The car comes with an A4 folder full of receipts, photos and details of work carried out, also including original handbooks etc. The car is RSOC registered with Derek and wears the “registered” sticker with pride LOL.

The spec is as follows: chipped ecu, stage 2 head, new stage 2 turbo (details below), piper cam, group 'a' coil, vernier pulley, brand new k&n panel filter in standard airbox, magnex exhaust, koni suspension, polybushed throughout, newly re-furbished sierra Cosworth wheels with new tyres, Cosworth brakes, 3 spoke RS steering wheel and white RS dials.

The car also underwent a full front end restoration in 2005 and there are photos to show the work done. Once completed, it was given a full re-spray costing £3000 (with receipts to prove) and therefore the paintwork and panels are bright white and totally rust free as you would expect.

Since purchasing the car, i have also done the following:

Spoiler has been re-sprayed as it had flexed and cracked on the edge, the boot lock was loose and this has been sorted with the correct gasket fitted and now works perfectly, new front and rear Ford badges in the correct light blue and silver, new gas boot struts, £450 clifford concept alarm including remote central locking, new cambelt and tensioner, sump gasket, rocker cover gasket and 2 new gearbox oil seals (supplied and fitted by Ford), oil change, filters, new number plates, brand new plastic membrane between the door cards, brand new 10cm Hertz speakers and a Nomad PSI boost gauge fitted in a 'Tim' pod. My Alpine headunit IS NOT included in the sale although the new speakers will stay with the car.

Now the bad points.....

For some time the car has been making very little boost. The car was straight away fitted with a brand new -31 actuator which made no difference and we turned our attention to the turbo. The car spent a week at APT and had the turbo removed, stripped, rebuilt and upgraded to stage 2 at a cost of £500! Once bolted back on, the car still made low boost which has now diagnosed the problem as piston rings/pistons and therefore the engine needs a re-build.

So just to clarify, although the engine could do with a re-build, it already has a brand new cambelt and tensioner, stage 2 turbo and -31 actuator. To give an idea of costs, APT have quoted the engine work needed at approximately £1500 if you didn't want to do it yourself. When done, you should have an approx 200bhp car as it stands with the current spec. It has had SOME welding in its lifetime but no more than you’d expect with a car of this age and it is still very much drivable in its current state.

As well as the engine work, the car also needs some welding for the MOT which is due at the start of next month. The welding needed is along the sills and chassis legs i believe, the usual areas!!! It has 6 months tax.

Genuine reason for sale and that is that i can no longer afford or justify the work needed to be done to the car to get it to the standard i want, even thought i have already spent a small fortune on it!!

With all this in mind, i think the car is fairly priced at £2500 NO OFFERS (considering the price i paid for it before the problems with the engine arose and have pumped in another £2500+ since then on various things already listed above).

I have been as honest as i can about everything i can think of, but if there are any other questions, please feel free to ask here or pm me if you prefer. I could easily make more money by breaking the car (just the wheels and turbo alone would hit four figures) but haven’t the heart to do this!!!

Now for the pics.....
