you have the choice to keep your personal tax low by using a fuel efficient vehicle, or cutting down the use of your vehicle. (of course you still pay to some extent for goods transported by road etc). and in this way the government hope to reduce the emissions from vehicle use (even though they are a tiny fraction of all co2 emissions in this country and the world). but at least they are trying to do something, whether you believe in it or not.
on another thread some of you are talking about oil running out in the future, so how else do you suggest that it's consumption is controlled? or should it not be controlled?
the problem is the government wastes our money they are living beyond their means, if they were a business they would go bankrupt.What they need to do is stop wasting our money not keep uping their percentages and draming up new taxes.They have no real interest in saving the planet it is purely another revenue gainer.If everyone was to walk to work and stop drinking and smoking they would put up income tax so your theory is fundamentaly floored lol
