i dont think turbo stall is that detrimental to the life of the turbo. all cars chatter to some degree (even my Golf Gt tdi chatters), the cone filter has a larger surface area and is less restrictive, ie it doesnt damper the chatter noise like a standard set up.
obviously pushing 20 psi through will shorten the life anyway compared with standard boost. i say enjoy the chatter and when the turbo does pop its a good excuse to get a better one
