Why dont you just dig it up,level it and then put grass seed down,far easier! I have just done exactly this to my back garden and the grass is just starting to grow.Once levelled,all you need to do is rake in grass seed and then water regularly in this weather,annd it will shoot up.If you have any patches,you can reseed.
