Run a gauge to it (sender location) if you can find one. That way you'll know a pressure reading for sure and take the guessing out of it all. Also check wiring isn't worn and touching something else too. Its a really thin wire. Maybe disconnect the sender and see if there is a light at any point as that would prove it to be a wiring fault.
