Electrical zetec issue
Hi All
Run into a bit of a dead stop with this one, if anyone can shed any light it would be appreciated.
CAR: Ford Escort 1.8 Zetec Si 1998
PROBLEM:
While on the motorway in the car all the dash lights came on as if it stalled, still smooth, proceeded with hazards on as speed dropped to make my way over to the hard shoulder, as i moved across it became more jerky until i got across and the car eventually stopped. Now the car will not start.
CHECKED:
Cambelt fine, cams fine, battery fine, inertia switch ok, ignition switch ok. There is NO prime when the key turns for the fuel pump and the relay for the Dip beam (r8) is clicking away merrily, which stops when removed also the fuse for the front foglights has blown. All lights were fine though.
SO FAR:
Ok, i was thinking fuel pump obviously as i am getting spark etc and turns over readily but no fuel. But and this is the confusing thing, with no keys in the ignition battery shows 12.4v turn the key so dash lights are on 8.4v, turn key off back to 12.4v. Could this be an immobiliser issue that is incorporated into the fuel system thus making it look like the fuel pump. I am aware the PATS is the system linked to the key where if that fails to read the key it will turn over but not fire, any chance it's this.
Also why would the electrical circuits play up and break the relay and blow the fuse? Any suggestions very much appreciated. I'm not to hot on auto electrics as you can probably tell.
Thanks all
Dave
