I'm looking to do the same thing with mine
most refurbed ones I have found have been powder coated though,which is obviosly the best finish and most heat resistant.
I've been told that if you use 2k etching primer before you put your 2k top coat on the paint will resist cracking from the heat.
You will be able to get this from your local paint shop.
After its painted and your happy with it use a sanding block with very fine wet and dry paper to take the paint of the area around the writing.
