magnessium much like Aluminium forms a rapidly oxidiseing layer which in turn can lead to degredation of the material, on Aircraft applications there are strict proceedures about treating after blasting to prevent this, another problem associated with Magnessium alloys is that it age hardens much quicker than alot of alloys meaning it becomes quite brittle and much reduces its servicable life
