Got a birthday party to go to in about a months time, looking for some ideas on what to wear as I'm usually a tramp and spend about £5.50 per annum on clothing

Basically what do folks wear on an average evening around town? as that should be smart enough. shirt, shoes and jeans sound ok'ish? any links for stuff that looks half decent would be good, ta.
