if a copper pulled you and they were flush you would prolly be looking at 3 points and a grand fine for each tyre, so the tyre fitter prolly done you a favour.
not to mention that it takes longer to stop with low tyres in this weather

the raised bits are generally 2mm, but this can vary with tyre manufactures.
the legal limit for a car is 1.6mm and 1mm for a motor bike
the average height of a new tyre tread block is around 8mm
