1) If the drive is spinning up physically, then the chances are it might not be fucked. Possibility that the transport from disk to PC might be fucked (ie, connection inside, or whatever). Take the disk out, try it in another case or using a different connection.

2) Slap your missus. How is it your fault the drive fucked up? Shit happens, sometimes it's not fun, but if it ain't your fault, then tell her to stop over-reacting...
