just do it streight across the neg side of the battery.see what sort od a drain there is there aloud anything up to about 0.04A drain on a tranny battery. as said what year? it would take that long if its not charging too and stereo etc is draining it over time. check what amps is going back into the battery as well as volts as ive had a few that are charging at over 13v but under 1A going back in
