If i remember correctly (been ages since i stripped mine down for a rebuild
) The side bolts/mountings dont unscrew. They are triangular shaped so you only need to turn it enough to pull the bumper off it.
I guess if they have corroded they may need removing/cutting off to get bumper off.

I'll just cut them off and make some more user friendly ones I think as suggested by tabetha
