First thing you need to grasp is that it's a family of engine managements with many different hardware, firmware and software options. It's really good if you know which combination is best performance/buck for you.

I've been running the ~100€ kits for ~5 years and it's been perfect for me. The firmware has taken giant leeps from a few years back and it wasn't bad even then.
