4x4 Sierra Track Day Car ?
My current project (kitcar) is temporarily on hold due to a lack of funds over the next few months which leaves me with some time to think about my next project(s)
about 2 years ago I got hold of a sad looking 2.9 XR4x4 which I had intended to use as my donor for the kit, however plans changed and I ended up with a totally rotten 151k granada as a donor instead
so now I'm thinking of making the sierra into day track car
its got a few problems though:
* it would need a bit of welding (mainly the rear of the inner sills)
* the brakes lines, fuel lines and exhaust are all rotten
* all the dampers are totally shot and its got at least 1 broken spring
* all the tires are perished and don't hold pressure for more than an hour or two
* the clutch is nearly totally dead
* the engine almost pours oil out of the rocker covers
* the spark is so weak that it won't even start anymore
* the front window mechs have fallen apart (if you try and open them more than 1" the glass drops into the door)
I was thinking about completely stripping it out and either welding up the shell or tiring to find a better one (3dr ?)
then welding in a full cage and re fitting all the running gear after giving it the once over
also fitting strut braces, adjustable dampers (+lowering it a bit), some decent tyres (possibly on bigger wheels), bucket seats in the front only (no rear seats), perspex side/rear windows and any other cheap(ish) things I can do to stiffen, strengthen and add lightness
as for the engine, I don't think is worth re-building it, so I was thinking about the obvious swap to a cossie 24v ?
any recommendations / thoughts on this ?
