I'm not really sure how to put it.

The offset is the position of the disk in relation to the hub. So the distance from the face that mounts to the hub to the actual part the caliper clamps.
On 4x4's its not a great deal therefore the disk is almost flat, similar to the 406 V6, i'm not sure on the others.
