Why did Ford choose to use a Charge Cooler on the FRS rather than an Intercooler? Was it just for packaging purposes or is there any other benefit.

The only other advantage I could come up with was in a front end bump an intercooler can get damaged and let the turbo suck in a load of crap.

Any Ideas?
