I can't see it matters any way TBH. Most (if not all) petrol pump hoses are long enough for you to fill up the opposite side unless your complete utter mong and parked half a mile away from the pump.

we have 4 different types of van at work which have to be the right way to reach,so good to know....i posted the original post about this and it works on 95% of cars and some commercials,so is very handy... on later cars,they have a arrow next to the pump symbol which points to the correct side and on cars without the little arrow it is in relation to what side the pump hose is on the little symbol.although sadly for some people it is only 95% correct
