They are "just" bulbs aint they steve, not some sort of LED's ?

Just incase they are LED's maybe try connecting the wires to them the other way round as LED's will only work connected one way, where as bulbs work whatever way round.

Just the only thing I can think of why a bulb wont work like a bulb
