From looking at you have said I believe that your mate will be going to court with this one. At the end of the day he is unable to produe a valid certificate of insurance. Obviously he is an employee and the insurance will be down to the company to arrange and like most people they take it that the company is fully insured. I think that a representive from his company will also be summonsed and they will have to explain why the vehicle didnt have insurance. Personally I dont think your mate has anything to worry about as he has taken employment with this company and he has taken it that he would be fully insured as with other comapny drivers. I have know it though for the managing directors of the company take the penalty for having no insurance through poor book keeping.
