as you can about the heatsheild as this wouldnt look rite unless it all matched
Heat shield will burn. Unless you can insulate it so it's cold to the touch when the turbo is red hot, you don't stand much chance.
I air blasted my tanks, then rinsed a few times over with water to get all the grit out. Just check carefully afterwards and you should be fine. I had no problems in that respect, but was very careful.
