Ah, didnt realise it was the shape of the groove that made the difference.

i dont think the direction of the grooves is that important its the vanes on the inside of the disk that matter
Thats correct its to pull the air through the disk. If the grooves are the wrong way round it will just make more noise (so I read a long time ago).
