Correctly implemented they are never a bad thing, but on a basic setup the gains will be very limited

Its less about boost and more about flow, basically more powerful engines need bigger gates if you want to generalise.
So a 1000bhp V8 on a single turbo at 10psi, will need a bigger gate than a renualt 5 turbo at 30psi and making 200bhp
