Default American Jap-Crap... ;) (1991 Ford Probe 1st Gen)

*** UPDATED PICS (June 22th, 2008) ***

Here's a few new pics I shot today. Car is a 1991 Ford Probe 2.2 GT Turbo. They were developed and built in the US, however also officially imported into Germany in the early Nineties. Basically it's a Mazda 626 in disguise. Engine is a turbocharged inline-four, 2.2 litre, 12 valve. It's got tons of torque (for a standard car that age anyways), peak power on std boost is 147 bhp at only 4200 rpm. The standard engine is derived from a small japanese lorry and therefore pretty much bullet-proof. In the US similar cars on a std engine are common to produce well over 200 reliable bhp with a re-map only.

OLD POST/PICS:

It's got a 2.2 12V (yeah, 4-pot, 3-valve) engine. With a tiny turbo blowing in 8 PSI it usually develops around 150 bhp. It obviously goes a lot better with two-figure boost pressures...

It's front-wheel driven and in the inside it's got a lot of little gadgets. Leccy windows, Air-Con, etc.

There is even an adjustable ride suspension. There's a little switch in the centre console. If you use it, 4 little electrical servos move the adjusting screw at the dampers. You have 3 choices:

- ridiculously soft (car basically never stops bouncing up and down)
- medium (handles quite well - in a straight line that is)
- hard (not much better than medium but you feel every little piece of gravel on the road now)

But the coolest thing, without a doubt, are the self-buckeling seat belts. 8)

Oh, and here's a little example of Japmerican user information to prevent law-suits.
