well imo ,yes the car COULD have been mapped with the fault ,though you would have hoped the mapper would have found this in the set up/ pre checks before hand if he was worth his money......

if it was a boost leak, the car could have run correctly ,but the turbo would have needed to create more boost than was reaching the plenum to overcome the loss, and this on its own could cause damage, if the plenum pressure wss at the top of the turbo safe working limit ,then the turbo itself would have been working outside these limits,

if it was a inlet/air filter problem, yes again it would have run fine.
