Default rear springs on Sorpio? sagging?

is it common for them to loose their spring rate? I took my springs out today and replaced them. I found out they are factory ford, and look kinda new (no rust), but my rear end was sitting pretty low even with nothing in it. put a darn toolbox back there and the suspension travel is pretty much gone.
this is on an 86 4x4. I notice alot of socrps sit lower in the back but this was crazy enough to make me believe that it was done to it. Not even signs of cutting or heat.

Was there a trick way back when of putting like sierra springs in to lower it or something?
I have noticed the later the scorp and sierra the better the suspension got.

I havnt done the front springs yet which are infact some kind of none ford (purple in color). right now though the car corners funny, the winter tires dont help either.
