Pretty much everything rusts on an XR2. Worst bits to look out for are the boot floor, everywhere around the leading edge of the rear arch, front panel, front inner wings, etc

All of these would be a major fail for an MOT, so not worth risking it for the track. The bodykit hides a load of probs, and along with the fact that the (usually present ) sunroof drainholes, feed into the (usually blocked ) sills, thus rendering them rustier than a rusty thing from....

However, there does appear to be a load of well looked after XR's out there. Just look very carefully. £500-700 should get you an MOT'd car. £1000-1500 a solid one.

Parts are very cheap, engines are available at almost giveaway prices, so I'd go for a solid base model, Popular etc, £400, and get a rusty XR2, with no metal left under the kit, £100, and just swap everything over. Hey presto, loads of trackfun. Oh and the wings are welded.
