Got a thread in the general discussion going on this also now

Anyway - cam timing was setup and vernier set when the engine was built. It is quite possible that its out by a tooth on the pulley. Think my first move is to check that the cam timing has been set at the 114deg for the t2. Gather i need to get a dial gauge or something

Will try knock sensor then - cheers chaps
