Sorry chap, but your wrong.
Your contract is with the shop you bought it from. There is no such thing as a shop 12 month guarantee with things such as electrical goods. You are covered for up to six years depending on the value, ie you would expect a new Sony tv to last longer than a Grundig for example.
For up to the first 6 months its the shops responsiblilty to prove its broken, after that its up to you if they ask you. A simple report from an electrical store saying its fucked will do
The shop can either repair (in a reasonable length of time) or replace/refund you.
Don't let the shop fob you off to microsoft, by law its the shops responsibilty to deal with the problem.
