They don't want to employ women at the moment. a couple of reasons (allegedly - this has nothing to do with the TOC I work for, its a rumour I heard!)
1 - they are a higher risk of operational incidents
2 - they get employed, get on the job, get the 33k, and then get up the duff
Bet that is annoying thou, the train companies have paid x amount to train you etc then they get pregnant.
Do you see many women train drivers? I dont think i've ever seen one.
