The person applying for permission is issued with notice of his intent which he has to put up for anybody to read.This enables neighbours etc to air their grieviances etc. If the garage is over 30m2 , over 4m high ridge it , it has to have planning permission. it has to be 1m away from neighbours boundaryand less than the above meterage for him to build without planning permission.Well this is defo true in north essex anyway
