Ok here's some info for you...

Earlier 1.8Ts have the larger ported heads so there is scope for more power but that's only really useful when you get to around the 250bhp mark

there's loads of different variants but all they refer to is the type of management used apart from the anniversary models which were 180bhp made by the different type of turbo (K03s as opposed to K03)

They are around 8k now and apart from the higher power they had front and rear bumper extensions, sideskirts, R32 brushed alu interior parts, different interior, smoked headlights, rear spoiler, bigger brakes and the BBS RC 18" wheels that corrode like mad!

Only available in red, silver or black, there were 3000 of them made, 1500 petrol, 1500 diesel

Not worth the extra 4k IMO

Recaro interior is defo the way to go, the only thing I hated with mine was the wood trim but that was easy to change. Air con is a must, climate if you can find it is even better.

Not much goes wrong with them other than what Chris said, plugs, cam belt and tensioners should be done every 60k.

you should be able to find one with at least some history for around the 4k mark. Front ARB bushes can go but they are easy to do yourself and cheap, rear bushes are a nightmare!

If you can make sure its had the original water pump replaced with the newer VW one, the first they made was plastic and had a habit of shattering!!

If you want any more info let me know

Here's some pics of mine to get you thinking anyways

I've had the 4-motion front and rear valances fitted and colour coded, anniversary skirts and headlights fitted also
