how far out does the rod in the gearbox have to come out before tightened the linkage?
Have you got a S1 or an S2? The boxes are different between cars.
Assuming you have an S2.....
...looking @ the box from the rear of the car.
Turn the gearchange rod in the box left and then pull towards you. This will select 5th.
Basically, whatever you have to do to select the gear on the gearstick, do the exact opposite on the gearbox to get the same action.
