Chris I guess the first hurdle to overcome is to familiarize yourself with the equipment and get to know your excercises. A good way of doing this would be to have a member of gym staff draw you up a program.

Establishing a routine and knowing exactly what you aim to achieve out of your next gym session ,what excercises at what weight and how many reps can be daunting at first.......use the staff and a program to aid you. They are there to look after you so dont think twice about asking for advice.
