sounds to me as though you might have a bent valve or one thats not closing properly and thats the cause of your rough running, instaed of a sealed cylinder some of your combustion is leaking out so you might as well be running on 3 and the popping noise is probably unburn't fuel going straight passed valve into exhaust system
