Bluesmoke, chin up dude. I mean if you going to university you will be studying and hopefully gaining a proffession that one day wil help my children in sum way. Look at it in that way that as you lose one thing you gain another.
Years ago I had the same issue and me so called best mate was seeing megirlfriend. I tried ending my life and me other mate found me. i then found sumone else , my current partner and now have 2 kids a house etc.
I'm sure you will get through this.

And, if its any consolation, my sister has just found out her chap in 4 years has been cheating on her with 7 women and he shas 4 different kids through em all.
