Default My Knockhill Silver Experience - 4.6.2007

Some of you might remember my post about this when i was decided whether or not to do the Legends or the Single Seater Experience. In the end i chose to do the Single Seater Experience and headed up on Sunday night to Dunfermline, where myself and my girlfriend stayed in the Pitbauchlie House Hotel - which was very nice indeed and only a few miles down the road from the circuit.

We took the Forth Bridge over on the way up but proved to be a nightmare (we waited 1.5 hours in traffic, after the website estimated the delay to only be 20mins - lesson learned ).

On the following morning there was very severe fog, even at low altitude in Dunfermline in comparision to the circuit higher up. The morning's events had been cancelled but luckily my afternoon event still went ahead.

We all congregated in the Cafe for a safety breifing and then went out to get our helmets and gloves, and then had a run in the brand new Seat Leon Cupras - mine only had 1000miles on it.

First lap was a slow one just to get a hang of the circuit and the turn-in and braking points, then gradually picked up the pace and by the end of the 3rd lap i was really pushing hard. The car had very good power from the bottom of the rev-range all the way to 6000rpm, the brakes were very strong but the handling wasn't the best IMO. The cars are rather heavy and are pretty tall. I was then graded on my driving and shown one hot-lap and one very poor lap by one of the instructors. I was 3rd place overall on the day with a score of 77 - the winner had 78, so chuffed with that.

Then i was out onto the single seaters - motorbike engined and 6 speed gearbox. Took a while to get used to the car and its handling (now rwd as opposed to the Seat's fwd) but was flying along in no time at all. By the last lap i was really going but sadly just as i was pushing very hard (probably my fastest lap) someone spun infront of me and this affected my lap. Unfortunatley we didn't find out our lap times - i'd be interested to find out how i got on.

Absolulutely loved the KH circuit, which is VERY demanding IMO with some very tricky sections not only because of the corner angles but the fact they are often on steep gradients. Its definatley confirmed the fact that i want to get into track driving, and i plan to convert my Fiesta in winter 2008 to run on track nights.

The experience ended at 5pm, just in time for some of the Trampdrift guys to appear into the paddock, along with some other tasty motors - spotted Colin T's super mint Mk2 Golf 8)
