If turbo is chattering and it has a few miles on it, it does put a extra strain on it, but some run like this anyway as they love the chatter, chavvy people!!
If it is leaking boost then will not do any damage, pipe does not have to be anything special, I use FISH TANK pipe a lot as mostly silicone so as not to harm the fish and about 1/2 the price or lower than proper car stuff.
